Social Engagement
On July 10, 2024, the Department of Public and International Law of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, successfully organized the second webinar in the “Law of the Sea” series. This webinar, part of the department’s Research Conference, focused on “The Issues Arising from India’s Application to the ISB on Exploiting the Afanasy Nikitin Seamount.”
The webinar addressed key concerns related to the sustainable exploitation of marine resources, the legal frameworks governing seabed mining, and the potential environmental impacts on the Afanasy Nikitin Seamount. It provided an outstanding platform for students to engage in a meaningful dialogue on the complexities of maritime law and the sustainable development of ocean resources.
This event underscores the Faculty of Law’s commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering critical discussions on pressing global issues. The Department of Public and International Law continues to play a pivotal role in educating future leaders and contributing to the discourse on international maritime governance.
